THE MECHANIC'S COMPANION, by Peter Nicholson is, at long last, ready and willing to be sold for a reasonable $26.95. In trade paperback, at 450 pages and weighing in a just under 1.4 lbs, Mechanic's Companion is 5.5"x8.5"x1", a nearly exact replica of the original.
This, the 1850 edition, has been one of those short projects that morphed into a lengthy project. Getting the 40 engraved plates just right took a bit of doing. It seems Mr. Nicholson used the same plates he engraved for an original 1832 edition all the way up through the 1850 edition.
True, he was not really alive by 1850, but I won't quibble on a minor point such as this. He may well have used the same plates in earlier editions, but I didn't have anything earlier on hand for a direct comparison. Suffice it to say, with a bit of Photoshop work, the plates in the Toolemera reprint retain the details Mr. Nicholson's hands imparted to them.
Currently, Paypal and Amazon are up and running at the storefront. Shortly, I'll have The Book Depository, Powell's and Shop Woodworking links live also. 'truth is, you can buy the book from any bookseller who uses Books-In-Print, which is to say, most everyone. Just search for the ISBN: 978-0-9831500-0-8 and yer golden.
Till next, Gary
