Much as I would like to say Irene is going the way of all things, this one seems to want to hang around. Having grown up on and lived on Long Island, NY, it's gonna be a hairy ride down there.
With the eye tracking to the west of the coast up here, that means high winds for Boston and vicinity and possibly 30 foot swells along portions of the coast. Yup, Sunday night is a high tide. The last time that happened, a goodly portion of the New England coast was destroyed. Now there are many more people living along the coastline which should make for some mandatory evacuations in the near future.
My one concern is the 30 foot elm in our backyard. The three trunks are cabled way up high, prunned yearly and generally in excellent health. It's also one of the last ones around here. We're keeping our fingers crossed it survives the storm.
Other than that, it's going to be AC units out of the windows, all storm windows down, trash cans tied down, basement drain plugged tight and lots of extra batteries for the portable fluorescents.
I love storms. Amy and three of the cats hate storms. Max loves storms. The more lightning the better for him.
I will be wearing my sneakers with sticky tape on the soles just in case the wind blows.
till next, Gary
